Each spring, we carefully source a limited number of Carniolan queens from trusted southern breeders. These queens play a key role in strengthening our early-season nucleus colonies (Nucs) and in maintaining healthy genetic diversity within our apiary by producing unrelated drones for future queen matings.
Every queen into our breeding program is evaluated against strict standards for gentleness, productivity, and classic Carniolan traits. Queens that do not meet these expectations are promptly replaced no exceptions.
Carniolan bees are exceptionally well-suited for cooler climates, making them an ideal choice for the Pacific Northwest. They are known for their ability to forage on cool, damp days when other bees remain inactive, and for their rapid spring buildup once nectar flows begin. Their reputation for strong honey production makes them a favorite among both new and experienced beekeepers.
Our early-season Nucs are built exclusively from proven colonies that have successfully overwintered, giving them a strong, reliable start and setting you up for success from the very beginning.
Each Nuc includes:
🟡 5 deep frames fully covered with Carniolan honey bees and their mated queen
🐣 3–4 drawn frames containing brood in all stages eggs, larvae, and capped brood
🍯 1–2 frames of food stores (honey and pollen) to support immediate growth
These early Nucs come from successful overwintered hives from Tiger Mountain Bees Apiary in Maple Valley, located at the foot of Tiger Mountain, just off Hwy 18.
